Biography
John Callaghan is a video artist and film maker who works under the name "Cal-Tv".
He works as a VJ and produces short films, music videos and documentary style video podcasts.
In early 2006 he created a music video piece called "Imagine This", a
cut-up of GW Bush singing the John Lennon classic "Imagine", this made
front page news in the European daily newspapers El Pais and Il
Corriere, and was shown to over 9 Million people on the Canadian TV
show "The Hour". The piece has also been shown at film festivals across
Europe, and recently received the "Special mention" award in the "Best
Irish Short" category at the Cork Film Festival; it was also nominated
for the European PRIX UIP. The piece has also been viewed over 500,000
times on Youtube and Google Video and is currently touring the film festival circuit.
Each week John creates a video podcast called "The Bubble", which covers events in the Irish arts and culture scene. in octber 2007 The Bubble was nominated in the Best Podcast Category by Irish Internet Visionary Awards
John has also created a number of music videos, recently a video for German producer "Robag Wruhme" was included on the European DVD
magazine "Slices". He also created the hit Dancepig Vs Countdown video for the irish electro artist Dancepig.
John also performs as a VJ at large multi-media events and music festivals, in 2006 he was commissioned to create the "Big Cycle" film for The Big Chill festival
John also teaches a course in Digital Video Fundamentals at the Center for Computational Musicology and Computer Music in the University of Limerick.
